Best Recommendation For Carrying Electric Bike On 2012 Honda Civic

I have a 2012 Honda Civic EX-L and want to carry an electric bike approximately 50 pounds. What is the best trunk carrier? Thank you.

The trunk mount bike racks we offer that fit your Civic are limited in bike weight capacity. The highest weight capacity of 45 lbs for a trunk-mount bike carrier is The Yakima KingJoe Bike Rack but it is discontinued. I spoke with my contact at Yakima and they said the weight of the bike would damage the vehicle so it is not recommended for electric bikes.

I recommend installing a trailer hitch and then a platform-style bike carrier. The trailer hitch I recommend is the Curt trailer hitch, part # C11391. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening and a 200 lb tongue weight capacity.

I then recommend a bike carrier like the Thule EasyFold XT Bike Platform Rack, part # TH903202. This carrier has a 65 lbs per bike weight capacity and weighs just 45 lbs. The carrier folds up to make it easier for storing and also loading into the trailer receiver.
