Using Timbren Axle-Less Suspension to Build a Trailer for On and Off-Road Use

Question:

I want to build a trailer for use on road to haul my atv to here i leave the highway. then use the same trailer to haul all my gear behind my atv off road 80km to my camp. Im considering 2 sets of the 1200 axless timbren to build a small tandem axle trailer for this. I want tandem to reduce tongue weight on my atv and in case i break one wheel assembly then i can still travel with the trailer. Looking at the pictures the bolt that the suspension pivots on is it lubricated ? How bad does this bolt/pin wear in off road, dirty, muddy, wet conditions ? This looks like a moving part to be concerned with off road ? Please let me know what you recommend for my application ?

If you consider that a Timbren axle-less suspension system such as # ASR1200S01 has just one moving part compared to leaf spring suspension that has multiple pivot points and the advantage, at least from that standpoint, is clear. Fewer moving parts means fewer potential issues.

Only the lower jaw part will pivot on that large bolt and while it doesn't have a grease fitting it would be easy to lubricate it since the units can be taken apart relatively easily. That would help protect it from the elements.

The road shock of being off road would not be an issue (provided you are not doing highway speeds through the woods!) because the rubber suspension springs absorb so much of the road shock.

In terms of building a dual purpose trailer that can be towed with a vehicle or an ATV using Timbren axle-less systems are a great idea and I do recommend them for this application. For a hub that will fit # ASR1200S01 you can use hub assembly # 8-91-05UC1-EZ.
