Clearance Measurements On MaxxTow Ball Mount with 2 Inch Accessory Receiver

Question:

I have a 2008 Santa Fe Limited with a Valley hitch. I need to raise the hitch for more clearance for my scooter carrier. Would this hitch allow for clearance of the back bumper and still allow for enough of the tongue of the scooter lift to fit into the adapter? You have other adapters but they are only about 5.5inch long from pin to to pin and that is too short. This particular receiver seems to be a good match. Please advise. Thank you.

It is possible that the MaxxTow Ball Mount with 2 Inch Accessory Receiver # MT70066 will work for you, but you will want to take a quick measurement or two first.

The # MT70066 measures 8 inches from the hitch pin hole on the base to the hitch pin hole on the accessory receiver, and 5 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole on the base to the rearmost point on the accessory receiver. You will want to ensure that you have enough clearance at your bumper for the MaxxTow # MT70066 to fit.

I have attached a help article on measuring bumper clearance for you. The article references vehicles with spare tires, but the concept is the same for measuring the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the bumper.

The other measurement you will want to take into consideration is the length of the scooter carrier shank. The accessory receiver on the MaxxTow # MT70066 measures 3 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the receiver. Any part of the scooter shank that extends past the receiver will need to be subtracted from the 5 inches between the center of the hitch pin hole at the base and the rearmost point of the accessory receiver.
