Installing Tekonsha Curt C51180 Echo Brake Controller 90250 on 2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV

Hello, I have a 2012 Escalade ESV and am interested in the Curt Echo brake controller, part C51180. Ive been reading about how GM does not have the brake controller wires connected to a harness anymore but Im confused on whether this applies to using the Echo or not. I did not try a voltmeter on the 7-way yet but Im not sure if I need to connect some of these wires or not so that the 7-way supplies power and tells the Echo when to initially start braking. I do see the terminals in the fuse panel area in the engine bay and I see the wires under the dash. Do any of the wires under the dash need connected to something? Normally there would be a controller mounted there. I guess Im just trying to make sure I understand how this works since there wouldnt be an under the dash controller and to make sure the braking signal is being sent to the 7-way. Or does this just come from the rear brake lights? Thanks!

In order for the # C51180 Echo to function, you'll need to have all the lighting functions and the 12-volt power feed at the 7-way functional. You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to confirm this. First, check the pin in the 1:00 position on the 7-way. You should be picking up power on this circuit. If not, you'll need to make a wiring connection under the hood. Click the video link I've provided, and fast forward to the 7:50 mark. Remove the cover off the fuse box and take a look at the two power studs at the front of the fuse box. If there isn't a red wire connected to the right-hand stud, you'll need to locate the red wire under the brake booster and connect it to the power stud as shown in the video. You'll need an M6 nut, part # 185916.

Once that's complete, test the remainder of the pins to ensure the right turn, left turn, brake and running lamp signals are all operational at the 7-way.

As long as the 12-volt feed and trailer lighting circuits at the 7-way are operational, you don't need to worry about any of the under-dash wiring.

I've also linked you to an install video showing the RF being installed using a 2012 Chevy Tahoe. Sierra. The procedure you'll use is pretty similar.
