To tow your 1988 Mitsubishi Mighty Max, you will need a few items. First, you will need to install base plates on the Mighty Max. You will need Roadmaster Standard Base Plate Kit, # 808-1. These base plates are for 2-wheel drive models. There are no base plate kits for 4-wheel drive models. Next, to use the Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar, # 63180, you will need Roadmaster Base Plate to Tow Ready Tow Bar Adapter, # RM-025. Keep in mind that this tow bar is rated for towing speeds of 45 miles per hour or less.

A better tow bar option would be the RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020, which is designed for towing long distances and more frequently. With this tow bar you will need a set of Quick Disconnects, # RM-201, to easily connect and disconnect the tow bar from the base plates.

Then, you will need safety cables. I recommend RoadMaster 68 inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, # RM-643. These are required by law in the event the Mighty Max becomes de-coupled from the towing vehicle.

You are also required by law to have a light kit. There are two options: permanent and temporary. If you plan on towing the Mighty Max often go with the permanent solution. You would need to install Tail Light Isolating Diode System with Wiring Harness, # 38955. I have included a video installation and a video demonstration below. For a temporary solution, use Magnetic Towing Light Kit, # RM-2120.

Finally, you will need to check with the manufacturer for instructions on the proper procedure for towing your vehicle because some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed.
