Cargo Carrying Options for Cross Country Trip in 2002 Acura RSX
Question:
I am doing a move across the country in my RSX and wanted to have more room to carry extra items. I am considering getting a cargo box to go one top of the Yakima Q tower. First off, is this safe? And also what is the weight limit for this type of application?

Your only cargo carrying option for your cross-country trip include ABS plastic rooftop cargo boxes that can mount to your Yakima Q-Tower roof rack.
Many cars have a rooftop cargo weight capacity of about 100-lbs (but check your Acura RSX owner's manual to be sure!). The thing about a cargo box is that even empty smaller ones like the Yakima Skybox 12 # Y07334 can weigh upwards of 40 - 50-lbs. This means that you've potentially used up about half of your roof's weight capacity just for the box! Rooftop cargo boxes also tend to generate more wind noise than a hitch-mount cargo carrier. On a long drive this is something to consider as for some folks that noise can be quite bothersome, especially if windows are open.
