Comparing etrailer e98874 and Curt # C18152 2-Inch Hitch Cargo Carriers
Question:
I am looking for a folding rear cargo carrier for my Lexus GX460. In looking on your web site I get directed to the etrailer e98874 for $250 and the Curt C18153 for $145. I would also need the pin and clip. What is the difference between the two cargo beds and which would be the best and why? Thanks.

Both the etrailer # e98874 and Curt # C18152 2-inch hitch cargo carriers will fit the 2-inch Class III hitch on your 2015 Lexus GX 460. Both feature steel construction and a 500-lb capacity but they differ in a few respects.
The etrailer offers 9-1/2-inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole when it is folded up in the storage position while the Curt # C18152 does not fold. You can simply measure from your hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of the car to determine how much clearance you need to ensure the etrailer # e98874 carrier does not contact your bumper cover. The etrailer model also offers a tilt feature.
For either you can use a hitch lock # e98880 or an anti-rattle lock # 63232 to secure the carrier to your hitch. Or if you prefer you can use a simple non-locking pin and clip # PC3.
Keep in mind that the actual cargo weight capacity for either carrier will depend on the hitch's tongue weight (TW) rating, which should be noted on its safety sticker, and also on the car's TW rating, which should be noted in the manual. For example, if your car and hitch are both rated for 500-lbs TW then after you subtract the weight of the carrier itself, either 61-lbs for the etrailer or 64-lbs for the Curt, you'll have a remaining cargo load capacity of 439-lbs or 436-lbs. If the car and hitch carry different weight ratings then the lower-rated item determines overall capacity.
