Do Friction Sway Control Units Need to Be Disengaged on Slick Pavement
Question:
Do I need to remove or loosen the friction sway bar if it starts raining while I am pulling the trailer?

When the pavement is icy or slick, Reese recommends that friction sway control unit be disengaged or removed. If the pavement is slick enough, the friction sway could cause the trailer to skid sideways in turns, causing the tow vehicle to lose control.
It's also recommended to disengage the system when backing the trailer. If the trailer should jackknife, the system could be damaged.
