You are correct, the illumination wire on the GM factory brake controller harness will not be used with the P3 brake controller # 90195. On the controller, the white wire is the ground, black is 12 volt power, red is input from the stop light switch, and blue is output to the trailer brakes.

The factory harness should have a red wire for 12-volt power, light blue for input from the brake switch, black for ground, and dark blue for output to the trailer brakes. And a brown wire for illumination that won't be used. If your wires are not labeled, then verify the functions with a circuit tester such as # PTW2993.

There may be some additional connections you will need to make under the hood of your 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 to make everything fully functional. I have included a link to a help article with a section that explains the underhood connections.
