Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Lock Up When Trailer Is Connected after Rewire
Question:
The 7 point plugh as well as the breakaway systems wireing were pulled out during a sharp turn and after wireing it all back up the e brake light comes back on in my 2001 chevy 3500 gas after about five seconds of starting the vehicle and engaged the brakes on the trailer. When i unhook my trailer the light still comes on but the trailer is good and the e brake has been released completly. Why does the light stay on and engage the trailer brakes when trailer is plugged in but not if its not plugged in?

It sounds like in the rewiring of your trailer you ended up shorting out the 12 volt circuit and the brake output circuit. Check the connections you made and for any exposed wiring and fix as necessary.
I attached a chart for how 7-ways are typically wired for you to check out as well.
