Can Trailer Brakes be Added to a MasterTow Dolly

Question:

I have been given a MasterTow Dolly which does not have brakes. I have copied the following information from the tongue: 14inch wheels Date of Mfgr: 01/02 3,220 lb. I gather it has 14inch wheels, can carry 3,220 lb. vehicle or is that just the front axle weight of the vehicle? I know it would need new tires and straps so Im trying to figure out if its what it would cost to refurbish this one or buy a new one already outfitted with brakes. I worked on Holsclaw boat trailers many moons ago so not afraid to tackle the job. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The weight capacity of a tow dolly typically refers to the total vehicle weight

I attached a help article that details how to add brakes to a trailer (or in your case dolly) that will cover everything you would need. Basically you will need to determine if your spindles have brake assembly mounting flanges first, and then determine what spindle you have so that you can pick out the correct hub/drums and then build from there.
