Best Aftermarket Pin Box Recommendations for Lippert 1621 Pin Box Replacement

Question:

Can you provide the differences between the airborne and the trailair air ride pin boxes. I know I have the lippert 1621 pin box currently. I cannot tell from reviews which has the advantage for a 11000 pound trailer and a F250 with a husky hitch

First, Trailair is the manufacturer. We get them from Lippert. They are similar setups. Both the 5th Airborne and the Trailair king pins have an airbag and shock. The main difference is the position of these components in the unit.

The Trailair units have the shock and airbag more at the front which seems to provide better cushioning against road shock, vertical and horizontal shock and chucking. Either unit will provide an increase in ride quality and reduce the stress on the on the truck and trailer frames.

If you are looking for the absolute best towing setup I would recommend a Sidewinder and 5th Airborne pin box part # RP61422. This is a cushioned pin box that will reduce jarring and chucking, but since this pin box moves the pivot point back 22 inches the trailer will track better behind the tow vehicle and will be much easier to back up. And if your tow vehicle is a short bed truck you wouldn't have to use a slider hitch to allow for sharp turns any more either.
