Installation Method for Camco Lights Out Retractable RV Vent Shade # CAM42913
Question:
Hello, i have a question for the installer of this product. I was looking for something to block out the morning light because I work nights. It looks like a very easy install but i do not like the idea of screwing the third screw into the ceiling. I feel that its just a matter of time before that screw becomes loose and will have to be replaced by a bigger one. I have been sitting here looking at it, I have not purchased the product yet. My question is having installed this before, do you think I could substitute the third screw with a Command non damaging hanger? Something with a small hook or pin on it. Thank you.

I pulled a sample of the Camco Lights Out Retractable RV Vent Shade # CAM42913 so I could see just how much pressure it would apply on the third supplied screw that suspends the extended end of the screen.
This shade's spring retraction mechanism does NOT pull constantly. Once extended there is no pressure pulling the shade material back in - not until you press the automatic retraction button on the end of the tubular housing. So when you have the shade extended it will NOT put force on the screw or the hook you might choose to use instead. The screw supplied to suspend the leading edge of the shade will only suspend the minimal weight of the shade material but it will not have to fight the spring's tension.
You should be fine using a pressure sensitive hook or other fastener if you prefer this over the supplied screw, but I would not worry at all about using the supplied fastener.
