Recommendation for Personal or Professional Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Audi A4 Avant

Question:

re: Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar - Audi A4, 2007 should we plan to have this professionally installed, or consider trying ourselves? Is the warranty still good if we do not hire a professional installer? Thanks!

Deciding on professional or do it yourself installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch for the 2007 Audi A4 Avant is a decision you will need to make for yourself. I can give you the information to help you make the best decision and if you decide to do the installation yourself your hitch warranty will be the same as if a professional installed the hitch.

Installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch, item # C11180, involves the following 4 steps (see instructions link). There is no drilling required.

1) Lower exhaust by removing existing hardware securing exhaust brackets on both sides of vehicle.
2) Align holes on vehicle with holes in hitch, placing hitch main body on top of vehicle tow loop.
3) Reinstall existing hardware and supplied hardware as shown.
4) Torque all existing hardware to specifications in the instructions

Once the hitch is installed you may need trailer wiring. This is a hard wire installation that is a bit more involved and requires the use of a circuit tester to to determine the correct lighting circuits to splice the harness to, behind the rear tail lights. The correct harness for your vehicle is the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT. I have included a link to the instructions for this kit below.

Some items you may need to complete your Class I towing setup are listed below.

Hitch Ball 1-7/8 inch, item # 19256
Hitch Ball 2 inch, item # 19258
