Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2007 Ford Focus Sedan

Question:

Your QandA has enlightened me to the possibility that the Thule TH65JV could be too heavy for my vehicle and potentially damage it. I like the OutWay TH45JV but like even better the wheel trays and the clamping / no adapter bar system of the 65JV. Do yo have any insight as to whether a 2007 Ford Focus sedan could support the 65JV? I don't plan to buy a roof rack or install a hitch for this vehicle, so only the trunk mounted systems are options for me. Thank you!

For your 2007 Ford Focus both of the Thule racks you referenced have been confirmed as a fit.

Honestly I would strongly recommend you go with the hanging Outway part # TH45JV over the platform rack part # TH65JV. Most likely you would be fine with the platform rack, but I would hate to have the rack dent your vehicle if you hit a big bump or something similar.

The previous generations of the platform OutWay had a reputation for denting bumpers so we try not to recommend them as much as the hanging racks.

If you plan on carrying any women's or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Swagman Easy-Out Women's and Alternative Frame Bike Adapter # 64005 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
