Trunk Mount Bike Carriers for a 1997 Toyota Celica Convertible

Question:

What is the difference between Hollywood Racks Express 2 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Fixed Arms - and Hollywood Racks Trunk Bike Racks . The description reads that they will fit my 97 Toyota celica convertible. However, can the trunk open with the rack attached to the car.?

With any trunk mount bike carrier in place you cannot open the trunk. It affects not only the fit of the carrier on the vehicle but also the hinges of the trunk or hatch are not designed for the additional weight and the truck or hatch can fall down unexpectedly.

The Hollywood Racks Express bike carrier, # HRE3 is the entry level option. It is very similar to the Malone Hanger Trunk Bike Rack for 3 Bikes # MPG2139. The difference is that the Malone carrier has anti-sway cradles to prevent the bikes from hitting each other. I have linked video reviews of both types for you.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance.
