Wiring the # 5504 Draw-Tite Activator on a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Question:

Ive been told on 2007 Suburbans the wiring is not as easy as on other years. Im fairly handy. Can I handle this or is it something a dealer needs to do? Do I need the 30 amp breaker or do you know if the Suburban has this already? Thanks

Wiring a brake controller no the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban should not pose that big of an obstacle. The wires for the brake controller are under the dash and fairly easy to find (see link) and there is a plug, located above the spare tire, which is used to install the 7-Way Trailer Wiring Harness, item # 30955, at the rear of the vehicle.

If your vehicle does not have the factory wiring already connected you will also have to make two connections under the hood to complete the brake controller and 7-Way installation. The brake controller power wire can be found between the under hood power distribution box and the drivers side fender and is attached to the power stud matching the size of the eyelet at the end of the wire. The power wire for the 7-Way at the rear of the vehicle is located under the master cylinder and is attached to the second power distribution post. You will need a M6 Flange Nut, item # 185916, and a M8 flange Nut, item # 185917, to secure these wires to the studs.

One final recommendation I would like to make is that you consider the purchase of a proportional brake controller. Proportional controllers have an accelerometer in them that senses how fast the vehicle is stopping and, when the brakes are applied, the controller will apply the brakes in relation to the speed in which the vehicle is slowing.

I would recommend the PRODIGY P2 Brake Controller, item # 90885, which is a very easy to use controller and works much better and smoother than any time delayed brake controller.
