Best Weight Distribution/Sway Control Recommendation for 6,500 lb Trailer
Question:
I have a 2006 Rockwood 2701SS Travel Trailer. Hitch Weight 437#, Unit Dry Weight 4,734#, GVWR of 6,437#. I am currently using a Reese Frame Hitch with adjustable mounts and Snap-up brackets, but it has no sway controls on it. Can you recommend a suitable Reese hitch for me with Sway Control as I would like to have this feature when towing this Trailer. I am towing with a 2011 Chev Silverado LT Extended Cab. Any help is much appreciated. Thank You.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
Your tongue weight will most likely be between 650 and 975 lbs. For a weight distribution system that would work great with this range the part # RP66074 that you referenced would be an excellent choice. It features the only sway control on the market designed to fight sway before it starts. It also doesn't come with a shank which will allow you to use your current shank.
