Connecting Truck Camper Third Brake Light On 2007 Nissan Frontier
Question:
I have a 2007 Frontier XE 4 cyl, with factory trailer wiring. I also have a Leer topper model 100R with a brake light. The light has 4 wires 2 pairs of red and black. Can I go from the 4 plug flat trailer connector to this light or do you make a special connector for this?

To wire the brake light on your Leer topper you will need a dedicated brake light only circuit. The 4-way harness on your truck has multiple functions for the pins used for the brake lights. One pin will be for running lights, one for left turn/brake, one for right turn/brake, and the fourth is the ground.
Since you have separate wiring on your Frontier, the easiest way to find the right wire is to pull the tail light and use a circuit tester like part # 3808 to find the wire behind the tail light that shows power only when the brake pedal is pressed.
Another way is to tap into the center high mount stop lamp(CHMSL) circuit. You can check your owners manual to see if the CHMSL if the fuse has other functions as well or if it is fused by itself.
If the CHMSL has its own dedicated fuse you could use a fuse tap like part # F2526, and run a wire like part # 16-1-1 from the fuse tap, under the truck, and to the wiring for the light. The # 16-1-1 wiring is sold by the foot.
If the CHMSL shares a fuse then you will not be able to use it, and finding the right wire behind the tail light would be the way to go.
