Brake Controller Recommendation for 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche Towing 2016 Forest River Wildwood
Question:
I have a 2010 Chevy Avalanche LT 4x4. In process of purchasing a 2016 Forest River Wildwood X-Lite 281QBXL Travel Trailer. It is 32foot long and dry weight is 5438. Which brake controller would you recommend, and how is it installed on my vehicle?

When it comes to a brake controller for your 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche, I recommend going with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195. The P3 is a proportional controller which activates immediately and automatically adjusts the trailer's braking based on the deceleration of tow vehicle. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
Now for installation. If your Avalanche is equipped with a factory 7-way, you will just need to connect the wires from the brake controller to those present up under the dash. The wires needed should be located under the left side of the instrument panel to the left of the steering column.
Connections will be as follows:
Black on brake controller to red with black stripe for 12 volt power.
Red on brake controller to light blue with white stripe on truck for brake signal switch.
Blue on brake controller to dark blue on truck for output to the trailer brakes.
White on brake controller to white on truck for ground.
I have included a video of a brake controller being installed on a 2013 Avalanche which will be nearly identical.
If your Avalanche is not equipped with a 7-way, you will also need the Twist-in, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector, # PK11916.
