Recommended Hitch Mounted Hanging Bike Carrier For 2009 Volkswagen Eos

Question:

Will this rack fit? I have the Curt Class I hitch installed but based on the measurements provided in the pix it seems like the knob might stick up too high to clear the bottom of the bumper which slopes up from where the hitch is. Thanks,

The locking hand knob on the shank is 4-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole as shown in one of the attached photos. In the other photo I attached you can see it is positioned at an angle on the shank of the Thule Helium Aero, part # TH9042PRO. It may have enough clearance to be able to tighten the rack to your trailer hitch.

The carrier weighs just 18-1/2 lbs and has a weight capacity of 35 lbs per bike. The bike rack also features a cable lock system that helps deter theft of the bikes.

A bike carrier I recommend is the Kuat Beta, part # B202-114. This lightweight aluminum bike carrier weighs less than 13 lbs and has a weight capacity of 80 lbs. The distance form the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright is 10-1/2 inches so you would have enough clearance at the back of your Eos.

If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. To secure your bike rack to the trailer hitch I recommend the Kuat Bike Rack Hitch Lock, part # HL1.
