Can a 2015 Toyota Tundra Tow Fifth Wheel that Weighs 8,690 lbs

Question:

Hi. We recently purchased a 1/2 ton series fifth wheel by Forest River with a dry weight of 8690Lbs. The model is a Wildcat Max F262RGX, to be to towed with our 2015 Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 w tow package. It is rated at 10,300 lbs tow and a 1515lb cargo rating. These 5ths are being sold as an RV that can be towed by a 1/2 ton truck. I dont know what the pin weight is for this fifth wheel. We had a Curt 16K hitch installed with a Curt electronic trailer break assist at a local Pickem Up Truck Store. We got it hooked up at the dealer and drove it the 75 miles home. Pulled smoother than our previous pull trailer and seemed to pull up the hills to our home just fine with no lack of power and not to much bucking or pushing. I began to look at some RV towing forums on line and now Im thinking holy crap-I could have caused a wreck or burned up my trans, etc etc. Some people with Tundras said, yea no problem but the vast majority said no way, dont ever do it. So, whats the bottom line? Do I need to borrow a truck for my annual only, 200 mile trip? Or am I okay? Please help.

Based on the capacities of your 2015 Toyota Tundra and the weight of your trailer you should be fine. As long as you stay under the 10,300 lb capacity that Toyota stated is the capacity for your truck there would be no reason to fear that you are overloading your truck.

At 8,690 lbs you aren't really that close to the towing capacity so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
