Tekonsha Brake Controller Showing NC Error Code
Question:
Our tekonsha brake controller shows n.c. then 2 dots when connected to the trailer. What is the cause and how do we fix it?

Expert Reply:
The brake controller is not reading your trailer, which can be caused by several things.
First, check both the vehicle and the trailer side of the trailer connector. Make sure neither side is damaged or corroded. If you can see any green corrosion on the pins or sockets, there is a chance that the corrosion has spread to the interior of the connector, interrupting the connection. Check the terminals where the wires actually attach for corrosion.
Next, check the brake output wire (usually blue in color) on the trailer for loose connections or nicks in the wire insulation that can interfere with the voltage from reaching the brake magnets.
Check that one lead from each brake magnet is grounded to the trailer frame. Make sure that this connection is securely made to clean metal with no corrosion.
Finally, the bake magnets might be excessively worn. Pull off the drum, and if you can see the copper windings showing through the face of the magnet, it is worn and should be replaced.
