When using a hanging style bike rack with a woman's bike - or any that has a frame design without a horizontal top frame tube - a bike adapter bar such as the Yakima Tube Top # Y02531 is helpful.
Adapter bars simply attach at the seat and handlebar posts and provide a level mounting surface to mate with the carrier's arms. This ensures the bike remains level for safe ground clearance at the wheels. The linked video illustrates installation.
