Recommended Product to Change Shift Points When Towing

Question:

Im not sure this is a question relating to the subject #SU3842, but the topic seems related to my problem. I have a 2004 RAM 1500 5.7 L with the 5 speed including overdrive auto tranny. The truck runs and shifts OK when not towing. However when towing my 6500 lb TT, it seems to have defective shift points for the load in either towing or non towing modes. The shift from 1st and 2nd does well but it stays in 2nd way to long and at too high an RPM before it goes into 3rd. Then it shifts too soon into 4th and almost immediately goes into overdrive at about 40 MPH. When trying to pull onto an expressway, this greatly reduces acceleration and makes it hard to get up to speed, not to speak of the overload on the engine at low RPMs. Had it to a dealership. They reflashed the computer, no help. Also, when crusing at normal higway speeds, if I want a little increase in power to go over a slight grade I have to floor it to get it to downshift, applying much more power than needed. Question: Is there a device that I can change the shift points when towing, to my liking?

The Superchips Flashpaq F5 Performance Tuner # SU3845 that you referenced can allow you to change the shift points of your 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 liter gas engine. However it sounds to me like your transmission is on the way out. I would have it checked out by a professional mechanic.
