Recommended 4-Bike Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier For 2005 Volvo XC90

Thank you again. Just a follow up question. Is there not a rear strap bike carrier for four bikes for this model car?

From my research on your XC90 I found it has a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs.

You can verify that by checking the decal that should be on the passenger side front door post or on the inside of the engine compartment on the driver side under the hood for the weight capacity for your vehicle.

Since the Thule Hitching Post Pro, part # TH934XTR weighs about 40 lbs, you would be fine because the weight capacity for each bike in the carrier is 35 lbs, or a total of 140 lbs. This bike carrier will fit 1-1/4 and 2 inch trailer hitch receiver openings.

When carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.

We do not offer any trunk-mount bike carriers that can handle more than three bikes. Adding a fourth bike and extending the bike rack even further would create a lot of stress on the vehicle attach points and the rack as well. If you do not have a hitch on your XC90 I recommend the Curt, part # 13559. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. The # TH934XTR mentioned above would work well with this hitch.
