Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback Behind a Motor Home

Question:

This plate is for 1996 subaru legacy outback...correct?... Is it compatible with blue ox alpha tow bar 7355.. I think that is correct number..6500 lb?

Blue Ox base plates # BX3604 do indeed fit the 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback models. The base plates are compatible with the Alpha tow bar as well, # BX7380. The tow bar is rated for 6,500 pounds and comes with safety cables.

You will also need a lighting solution and supplemental braking to complete the flat towing set up. For light a simple magnetic kit, # RM-2120, will work and it bypasses the vehicle wiring for easy set up.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
