Installation and Compatibility of Catalytic Converters for 1999 GMC Savana Van
Question:
I have been fighting the Check Engine light for the last 3 months. Because of the various and sometimes different codes, I have: 1. replaced the fuel filter, 2. replaced all 4 O2 sensors, 3. cleaned the MAF sensor numerous times. The Check Engine light now displays P0430 consistently. I turn it off, it comes back on, same code. So I think it is time to replace both cats. I notice that this cat does not have O2 sensors. I seem to remember that the O2 sensors are further away from the actual cat itself. But I was told by my local mechanic that his cats are a complete system, from exhaust manifold to the muffler. So I have 2 questions: 1. To install this cat, is the old one essentially cut out and the new one welded in place, or ?? 2. Will this cat affect the readings of the rear O2 sensor in any negative way. Or in other words, can I simply install it and be rid of the Check Engine light P0430 for good? Thanks for your help and advice!

The replacement catalytic converter fits for your 1999 GMC Savana Van will depend on where you live and which van version you own.
You can use the linked page to select either Federal or California emissions standards to then see converters that are approved. Next use the drop-down menu bar to select the van version you have. We offer both direct-fit and universal converters, some with single O2 ports and others without ports.
For example if you do not live in California and have a 5.7L V8 1500 series you can use a weld-on universal converter like # MF99006HM or direct-fit bolt-on kit # MF93613 or # MF93615. The bolt-on kits each have a single O2 port.
Aftermarket parts may not necessarily clear your error codes; it is not possible to guarantee that the new converters will correct this issue. You may want to refer the error code issue to a GMC dealership.
