Is Spring Clip Available For 10 Inch Brakes That Are Welded On

Question:

I have the 10 X 1 1/2 welded on brakes..I am replacing the shoes and magnet.. My question is.. What is the trick on removing the clip at the top where the two shoes meet.. other larger brake assemblies have a bolt or removable clip...The 10 x 1 1/2 brakes do not..it looks like a one time use clip.. I havent seen that clip on any website. I have included a pic of the clip. Also not sure of an easy way to remove the springs . I cannot find a video on the ones I have. Thanks for any info.

When you are removing the springs it can be a bit tough. Most people will use a needle nose pliers and open the spring enough to lift it out of the hole.

The clip you sent the photo of is not offered as a separate item. The only brakes we offer that have the clip like this are 7 inch, part # 23-47 and # 23-48. The clip may come off but will probably not hold well if you try to use them again.

If you are working on a trailer like a mobile home trailer, welded on brakes were very common. If so I recommend going with replacement axles that have the brakes and hubs already installed. I have attached a link to the axles we offer that may work for you.

The largest standard axles we offer are 3.500 lb axles. If that would work for you I recommend part # e43SR. This axle is 89 inches long hub face to hub face and has the electric brakes, hubs, drums, bearings, races, seals, and mounting hardware. This axles also features EZ-Lube spindles for simple lubrication. The axle also has spring seats 74 inches center to center.

You may want to consider an axle-less system for your trailer. Depending on the weight capacity you need, we have several you can choose from.

If you can find nothing that will work with your trailer you may need to go to a local dealer to have an axle fabricated that will match your trailer.
