Recommended Hitch Mounted Hanging Bike Carrier For 2013 Smart fortwo With Class l Hitch

Hello, I have a 2013 smart fortwo with a Curt C11020 class one hitch. Now I am in the market for a bike rack. After reading the reviews I would like to know if the Thule Helium Aero 9042 will fit my application. Thanks!

The Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Rack, part # TH9042PRO has a measurement of 4-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the locking knob on the shank so it may not work real well with your 2013 Smart fortwo.

From our installation of the Curt Hitch, part # C11020 on a 2013 fortwo the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the rear bumper is 5-3/8 inches.

I recommend a bike rack like the Swagman trailhead, part # S63360. This rack tilts when empty for rear cargo access, and weighs about 25 lbs. It has a weight capacity of 70 lbs for 2 bikes and includes an anti-rattle hitch pin and clip. The clearance between the hitch pin hole and the upright bar is 11 inches so you have plenty of clearance on your fortwo.

If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance.
