Single Brake Controller Recommendation for 2004 Silverado, 2007 Wrangler, and 2008 Sequoia

Question:

I have three vehicles all equipped with factory tow packages. I would like to use a single brake controller that I can swap from vehicle to vehicle as needed. 2004 Silverado 1500 2007 Wrangler Rubicon 2008 Toyota Sequoia SR5 Trailer is a 7000 gvwr car carrier with 7 pin connector I understand that the Wrangler cannot tow the full weight of this trailer but I would like to use it for light loads. What can you recommend for my situation? Thanks

You can certainly use one brake controller for all of your vehicles, but you will need a wiring adapter to plug into the brake controller in each vehicle.

I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that features an easy-to-read LCD display. The brake controller will level automatically when mounted within a 360 degree vertical range.

For your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, you will want to use wiring adapter # 3015-P. The plug in tow package port for the adapter will be in the junction box behind the brake pedal. I have attached an installation video and a help article on installing a brake controller in a 2004 Chevy Silverado pickup for you.

The wiring adapter you will want for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler will be the universal wiring adapter that comes with your Prodigy P3. This adapter will need to be hardwired into your vehicle's wiring. You will need likely need the # 5506 wiring kit to install the brake controller on your Wrangler. I have attached a wiring diagram and a brake controller installation video for you. I recommend checking the towing capacity of your Wrangler before towing your trailer. Even with a light load, the trailer could still exceed your vehicle's capacity.

For your 2008 Toyota Sequoia, you will want to use wiring adapter # 3040-P. This adapter will plug into the vehicle's 5-pin connector and then need to be grounded near the connector.
