Adjusting the Hitch ball on your weight distribution head is a two step process. You will first need to adjust the height of the hitch ball. Park the trailer on a fairly level surface and measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler, then measure from the ground top of the weight distribution hitch ball. Adjust the hitch ball to between 1/2 and 1-1/2 inches higher than the coupler height in the most upright position.

After the height adjustment is made you will then be able to adjust the spring bar tension. Without the trailer attached to the vehicle measure the highest point of the wheel wells at the front and rear of the vehicle. Record this measurement. Now hook the trailer to the hitch ball and install the spring bars. Measure the wheel wells again and if the front and rear settles within about 1 inch of the original measurement you are good to go. If you settle more in the rear and less in front or raise in the front you will need to adjust the angle of the head away from the back of the vehicle to put more tension on the spring bars. Once you get the vehicle to settle as level as possible and everything properly tightened you will be ready to travel. If the friction bars are not fairly tight on the pads they most certainly need to be adjusted.

We have an installation video for a weight distribution system with sway control for you to check out and if you would like to provide me with the model number of your weight distribution system I would be glad to try to find instructions for you. You should also check your Nissan Frontier owner manual or with your Nissan dealer to be sure your vehicle is rated to tow the trailer weight and use a weight distribution system with the hitch on your vehicle.
