Roof Rack and Cargo Box Recommendations for a 2003 BMW 530i

Question:

I have a 2003 BMW 530i and we have the 2nd baby on the way. If I get a Thule roof rack can I install the M.O.A.B and a cargo box like the Pulse or Hyper? Or I am limited to just one item up top. If so what would you recommend. We live in San Francisco and would be carrying strollers, suit cases etc. Not much skis/bikes yet...

On the Thule roof rack, TH753, for the 2003 BMW 530i, you can carry either a cargo box or basket. But the crossbars are not wide enough to carry both at the same time side by side. I have included a link to the installation details for the roof rack below.

I recommend going with the Thule Pulse M, # TH614. With the box, you will be able to lock your cargo inside, the box can lock to the roof rack, and your cargo will not be exposed to the elements.

Make sure that you stay within the weight capacity of your roof by checking the owners manual for the recommended capacity. The roof rack can hold 165 pounds, the box can hold 110 pounds, but if your roof is less, say 100 pounds, that is the maximum amount of weight you can put on the roof. You will also have to take into consideration the weight of the cargo box, about 40 pounds, when calculating weight.
