We have a video that should help you out. We did an install here on a 1993 Suburban. Our installers ran into the same problem. There were many wires on the stoplight switch, and they are not easy to get to. So, he located the wire along the steering column and spliced in there.
On the Suburban, it was a white wire located in a bundle by where he mounted the brake controller. Skip to the 7:00 minute mark in the video and the installer explains where to find the wire. Make sure you use a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, to make sure that is the correct wire on your vehicle. If not, test the other wires in the bundle in case it is a different color.
