Recommended Lightweight Platform Style Wheel Mount 2 Bike Rack for 2013 VW Golf TDI

I am looking for a lightweight platform-style wheel-stabilized 2-bike rack to fit the 1 1/4inch hitch on my 2013 VW Golf TDI. The weight of the rack itself is an important consideration. What do you recommend?

If a lightweight rack is what you're looking for, I recommend the Thule EasyFold XT, part # TH903202. The rack weighs in at about 45 lbs, and can carry two bikes weighing up to 65 lbs apiece. The rack can be used in either 1-1/4 or 2 inch hitches, and can carry bikes with up to a 3 inch tire. For wider tires you can add the Fat Tire Adapter, part # TH985101, and increase it to 4-11/16 inches.

The rack is capable of folding up against the rear of the vehicle when the bikes are removed, if you have no more than 8 inches of distance between the hitch pin hole and the farthest rearward point of the back bumper. (I'll link you to an FAQ article that shows how to measure this.) This has an anti-rattle hitch pin.

The Kuat Sherpa, part # SH12G would be another good choice. The rack is constructed of durable but light aluminum. At about 32 lbs, the rack is heavier than the Thelma mentioned above, but is still pretty lightweight. The rack also folds up, and you'd need more than 9 inches of clearance to use this feature.

Both racks would hold the bikes by the wheels/tires and would have no frame contact. I've linked you to product description videos for both racks.
