Brake Controller Wiring Harness for a 2009 Toyota Tacoma and P3 Brake Controller
Question:
Hi, Does this hook up to the back of the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller? Does my vehicle come pre wired with the brake control port? Finally, by using this adapter does it avoid running a power line from the battery and installing the grounds?

Tekonsha brake controller wiring harness # 3040-P does indeed plug into the back of the P3 brake controller # 90195. If your 2009 Toyota Tacoma came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector then the plug for the brake controller will be present on the truck.
If it did not come with a factory 7-Way then the plug may not be there or if it is it may not be fully functional.
If the connector is present and functional then you would not have to hardwire anything to install a brake controller. The only exception is that with the 3040-P harness you will have to attach that additional white ground wire to a clean metal surface under the dash somewhere. This is because the Toyota ground through the plug is not adequate enough for a brake controller.
I have linked a video showing installation of the P3 on a 2009 Tacoma using the 3040-P harness.
