Can Roadmaster Stowmaster Tow Bar Tow a Kia Behind a Dodge Dakota
Question:
Recently came across a stowmaster 5000. Only thing Ive seen, referring to the vehicle pulling it, says RV. Now hypothetically, lets say I want to pull my wifes kia behind my dodge dakota. Would this stowmaster 5000, be able to be used in this way? Or does the pulling vehicle have to be an RV or heavy duty vehicle? Thanks in advance.

When a tow bar is referred to as a motorhome mount, it means that the towbar mounts directly into a hitch receiver on the vehicle doing the towing. When the towed vehicle isn't connected, instead of removing the tow bar completely, it can be folded up against the back of the tow vehicle. A car mount towbar uses a coupler, and would mount to a trailer ball. When the towed vehicle isn't hooked up, the tow bar is folded up and stowed against the front of the towed vehicle.
You can flat tow the Kia behind your Dakota, assuming that:
1) The Kia is capable of being flat towed- see 'Recreational Towing' section of owner's manual
2) The weight of the Kia doesn't exceed the towing capacity of your Dakota
You'll also need some other parts to tow the vehicle safely. You'll need safety cables, a lighting solution so the taillights on the Kia operate in tandem with those of the Dakota and a supplemental braking system, which is required by law in most states.
For safety cables, I'd recommend the # RM-643. For towing lights, the simplest solution would be a magnetic mount tow light like the Roadmaster # RM-2120. For a supplemental braking system, the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR would be recommended, due to how easy it is to use and install.
If you'd care to reply with the year and specific model of the Kia, I'd be happy to recommend a base plate for the Kia. The base plate provides a secure attachment point for the towbar.
