Question:

I have read that towing an automatic all wheel drive car will damage the transmission, is this correct? Thanks

You are right. Some all wheel drive, and even some two wheel drive vehicles, could be damaged when towed. You will need to check with the manufacturer for instructions on the proper procedure for towing your vehicle because some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed as damage to the drive train could occur.

Once you determine if your 2007 Lincoln MKX needs anything particular to tow, there are a few components you will need to complete the towing set up. First, you will need the Roadmaster Tow Bars, # 4408-1, that you have referenced. You will also need a tow bar, like RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020.

Next, you will need safety cables as required by law. I recommend the RoadMaster 68 inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, # RM-643.

You will also need a lighting kit. For a temporary lighting solution, use the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, # RM-2120. These are magnetic and plug into a 4-Way on the tow vehicle. For a more permanent solution, use Tail Light Isolating Diode System with Wiring Harness, # 38955. I have included two videos show a demonstration and installation of this diode kit.
