Question:

Can I use the Yakima Stickup with a hitch extender on my 2003 CRV?

Yakima strongly states not to use the StickUp Bike Carrier with a hitch extender. Although this rack is not terribly heavy, a hitch extender would place it far enough away from the receiver that the leverage applied could damage the bike carrier or the receiver. You could most likely use the rack itself without an extender, but your spare tire would prevent you from folding the carrier.

I would recommend going with a bike rack with a longer shank on it that would clear your spare tire. The length of the shank is stated in the product descriptions, choose a rack whose shank is longer. To determine the length that you need, measure from pin hole in your receiver to the furthest rearward point of your rear mounted spare tire. The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 Bike Rack, part # HR200Z might be a good choice. The distance from the hitch pin hole to the closest wheel mount is 12-1/8 inches. If the measurement you took is less than that, the rack would fit just fine.

I have linked you to an article that describes how to measure for the clearance you need.
