The Thule Passage 2 # TH910XT and Thule Passage 3 # TH911XT are both great, economic options for a trunk mount bike rack for your 2003 Ford Focus Hatchback. The Passage bike rack features anti-sway cradles to better secure the bikes and prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact.
I have attached a review video of this bike rack on a Ford Edge and Toyota Pruis for you to see how it attaches on a hatchback.
If you plan on carrying bikes with alternative frames, such as children's or women's bikes, I recommend using an adapter bar, like # TH982XT. The adapter bar attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem. This allows the bike to be positioned easier and more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance.
