Recommended Replacement Trailer Tires for Tent Trailer to Replace 155R12 Tires

Question:

Hi, I currently have a tent trailer with 155R12 tires on it and would like to replace them with a higher ply tire for more durability. I cant find that size on your site, could you recommend a similar one?

We do offer both bias ply and radial ST-type trailer tires in a 12-inch wheel size although a ST155R12 is not among them. In a radial type we have size ST145/80-12 tires in Load Range D or E, which are rated for 1,220-lbs at 65-psi and 1,520-lbs at 80-psi, respectively. These are only 10mm narrower than your current tires and would work fine on 4-inch wide rims. You can see both items on the linked page, parts # AM10130 and # AM10140.

It is a good idea to have more weight carrying capacity than you need, so selecting a tire with a higher load range rating means it will be operated more conservatively. This means it will generate less heat and tend to last longer than a tire operated near its limit. But do note that upgrading tires does NOT increase the trailer's weight capacity at all. It just means cooler-running tires.

Only ST-type special trailer tires should be used on a trailer; passenger car tires are not suitable. Also, trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi pressure noted on the tire sidewall; it is never appropriate to under- or over-inflate a trailer tire. The two linked tire articles may be of interest.
