Flex Air Trailair Pin Box that Retains Water and then Splashes in Truck Bed When Towing

Question:

We have this pin box on our fifth wheel. Every time we travel with it, we get rusty water in the bed of our truck and on the right side of the hitch. The pin box came on our camper, the in truck hitch came from etrailer. I have looked at the pin box but cannot find any water, yet somewhere apparently It is holding water. Do you have any suggestions?

I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster and he said that the FlexAir pin box is not waterproof, and therefore can fill with water when there are heavy rains. Subsequently, when the unit is moved, the water inside can slosh out. One way to prevent this from happening would be to drill a small hole, using a 1/8” to 3/16” drill bit into the bottom of the pin box to allow this water to drain if needed, instead of gathering inside it.
