Installing a Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller on a 2008 Toyota 4Runner with Factory Tow Package
Question:
I have a voyager controller I received from the people I bought our tent trailer from. I have a 2008 4runner and the trailer brake jumper harness that came with the car 5 wires. I have no instructions on how to connect the wires. I need your help to know which colors to put with the 4 coming out of the controller.

If your 2008 Toyota 4Runner has a factory tow package, you can use the Tekonsha Brake Control Wiring Adapter, # 3040-P, and plug it into the port that is located under the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. I have included a link to the installation details below. If you have an older Voyager brake controllers with 4 wires coming out of the back, you can just cut the black connector off of the Tekonsha harness and splice the wires together color for color.
If you do not want to get wiring adapter # 3040-P, I can tell you the functions. If you are looking at the the face of the plug on your 4Runner, the top left pin is out put to the electric brakes and would connect to the blue wire on the brake controller. The top right pin is for 12 volt power and will attach to the black wire on the brake controller. The bottom center pin is the stop light switch and connects to the red wire on the brake controller. The bottom left pin is the ground wire and it attaches to the white wire on the brake controller.
If you do not have a factory 7-Way, you would need a 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, and Draw-Tite Wiring, # 119178KIT, to hardwire the whole vehicle for the brake controller and 7 and 4-Way trailer connectors.
