Do You Recommend Equalizer or Shocks for Trailer Towed by Fifth Wheel and 1996 Ford F-250

Question:

we have a 21 foot 5th wheel we pull a trailer behind. which would help with the ride better Equalizer or shocks. its a bit rough when we hit bumps. thanks

This is bound to happen when you tow a trailer with another trailer and is likely caused the cantilever forces on the trailer frame. But you can alleviate it somewhat by making sure the tongue weight on your second trailer is not too heavy or light. Typically tongue weight should be 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. A tongue weight that is too heavy would cause the rear end of the trailer to be more bouncy. Getting the trailer loaded properly will be the first thing you can do.

As far as aftermarket suspension enhancement, using a system like # K71-652-00, which you referenced, will definitely offer smoother towing than your traditional equalizer. The equalizers' rubber cores isolate and absorb most road shocks before they hit the trailer frame. Another plus is they are easy to install.

Please note it is illegal to tow a trailer behind another trailer in most states so you will want to check with the states DOT before towing.
