Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for a 1986 Ford Truck

Question:

Hi I have a 1986 three-quarter ton Ford. I just picked up a Draw Tite 16 thousand pound 5th wheel hitch with universal 10 bolt brackets. Had no hardware so I bought the 10 bolt bracket kit from you guys. WILL I have to the gas tank to put the L brackets underneath the body from the frame? is it better to drill holes use existing holes or weld the brackets to the frame . Could not find any installation instructions for my year of vehicle just wondering if you would have something as a guideline Thanks for your time.

To install a set of fifth wheel rails in your 1986 Ford truck you would not have to lower your gas tank. I attached an install video that shows the # RP30035 (the universal kit recommended for your vehicle), installed in a newer truck than yours that will show you the basic idea.

You would not have to weld to install this kit either. Basically you would want to center the two rails over your rear axle with the center of the rails 22 inches apart and drill through the frame where needed to install the L-brackets.
