Parts Needed to Connect Vehicle with 4-Pole to Trailer with 6-Way and Separate Brake Lights
Question:
I have a 2003 Monaco RV with a rectangular 6 pole plug. This unit has amber turn signals, so the brake lights are a separate wire within the plug. I need options on converting to a 4 pole flat for the vehicle I tow. I looked at replacing with a standard 7 pole, and then using a 7 to 4 adapter, but I cant figure out how to wire since I have a separate break light wire. Please advise. Thank you.

Since your vehicle's 4-pole wiring harness uses stop and turn signals that are combined on one wire, the green and yellow wires, you will use Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter # 118158 which takes in those combined signals and separates them out onto individual wires at its output side. Your Brown running light wire will simple bypass the converter and go directly to the trailer connector.
Rather than use adapters to connect the tow vehicle and trailer I suggest you wire in a matching 6-pole rectangular connector such as # 37995. Adapters are fine when there is no other option but you'll get better long-term service by wiring in a mating connector for your trailer. Adapters means more connection points and those can sometimes lead to problems down the road.
