Recommended Method for Transporting 3-Bikes on 2009 Honda CR-V
Question:
What is the point of getting the # Y02633 if it really only supports 2 bikes, not 3, after you have to install the additional glass supports? It isnt really a 3 bike rack/ I might as well put the 3rd bike in the rear of the CR-V

The Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack # Y02634 is a 2-bike rack; the 3-bike version is part # Y02633. What limits this 3-bike carrier to only 2 bikes when used on your particular vehicle is the limited weight-carrying capacity of the hatch. Some people still prefer to use a 3-bike rack for only 2 bikes since this provides for more room between bikes and, depending on their type and size, easier loading.
There is a safe way to transport 3 or more bikes on your 2009 Honda CR-V. That is to install a sturdy Class III hitch and use a hitch-mount bike rack. Hitch racks offer several advantages: they put no stress on the car's sheet metal, but instead use its frame - its strongest part - to handle the weight load from the rack; they allow use of other hitch-mount items like cargo carriers; they do not interfere with use of your rear wiper; and they allow you to tow within the car's rated capacity.
The most popular hitch for your car is part # 13555 from Curt. This hitch bolts on with included hardware and requires no drilling. The installation process is shown in the linked video and further explained in the linked article.
With a Class III hitch in place you can choose a compatible 2-inch hitch carrier with up to 5-bike capacity. A link is provided to show you all hitch racks that fit a 2-inch hitch, and these include both hanging style racks like the Yakima RidgeBack 4 # Y02458 as well as platform styles such as the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400Z.
The two linked articles on hitch racks will help you select one that will fit well at the rear of your vehicle and also match well to your bikes.
