Troubleshooting Driver Landing Gear Leg That Lowers when Follower Leg Rises after Install

Question:

Had driver side landing gear fail dry worm gear. Replaced the leg, and now legs go in opposite directions when engaged. Can you tell me what is wrong? Just bought set of the $509.00 legs, and they are great. This is on another trailer we have. I thought all legs turned same way, but I guess not. Thanks for your time.

One of two things are going, but most likely you installed your driver gear backwards. Since it is a driver gear there should be a drive shaft on both sides of the jack (one for the handle and one for the follower leg). If you installed it backwards it would operate in the opposite direction of the follower leg. What you would need to do is rotate the driver leg 180 degrees so that the leg raises and lowers in the same direction as the follower leg.

Or you installed a driver gear from a different manufacturer that happens to spin the opposite direction as the other leg on your trailer.
