Am getting an arc when hooking 2 six volt batteries together - why Thank you for your response

It is hard to say for sure, but it sounds like something isn't hooked up correctly. I would double check to make sure that you are hooking up everything like it should. I attached a picture that has a diagram of how to wire two 6 volt batteries in series or in parallel.
