Are Catalytic Converters Directional
Question:
hi, I had both the cats changed on my f-150 xlt 2006, when I was underneath I notice there were arrows on the cats. On the driver side arrow pointed to back of truck nod passeger side pointed to front of truck. I wanted to know if the arrow on the cats means flow? The muffler shop that changed them said the arrow doesnt mean anything. But I still get code p420 and when I reset it it comes back on almost right away.

The P0420 DTC you mention means that one or both of the catalytic converters isn't operating as efficiently as it or they should be. Catalytic converters aren't usually directional, but if the converter has the port for the o2 sensor built into it, and if the converter's been reversed so that the downstream sensor is sitting upstream of the converter, it would explain why you're getting the DTC.
